"I strive to develop the atmosphere of a place incorporating a feeling of time and of the land below and above me."
Carolyn Booker
Carolyn studied Textile Design at Worthing College of Art. For many years, Carolyn worked in interior design, painting part-time and producing hand-painted silk scarves. Gradually the emphasis of her work has shifted to paintings rather than textiles. Setting up her own picture framing company in 1999 has allowed her more time and freedom to paint.
Exhibiting successfully since 1996, Carolyn has shown regularly at the Affordable Art Fair, Battersea, the Chichester Open, Arundel Gallery Trail, the Otter Gallery, Chichester University, the Phoenix Gallery Brighton and the Zimmer Gallery Arundel. She also has work on permanent show in several restaurants in Surrey.
Carolyn's paintings are characterised by her skilful use of intense colour harmonies. In searching for the essential nature of a locality, her work explores the traditional juxtaposition of familiar elements through to the pure 'abstract' qualities found in the landscape. Her work is closely observed from landscape and nature, interpreted in a free and expressive style.
