Julie Button
Julie Button was born in Yorkshire, but now works in a studio in the seaside town of Littlehampton. Julie completed a BTEC in fine art at Northbrook College in Worthing, which is the leading centre for the creative arts in West Sussex and well known for producing high quality paintings and sculpture.
Art history, and creative arts and culture have interested Julie from an early age. At 19 she started her extensive travels of the world- seeking out new experiences to inspire her work, a hobby which Julie enjoys to this day.
Julie paints in a representative style, often using lustrous glazes and pearlised effects to bring a rich depth to her acrylic paintings. She is interested in 'seeing through' things to discover their true depth. Her paintings are mainly preoccupied with water and the sea, but Julie says that she will "paint anything that catches the eye," and has also worked on figurative and life pieces.
Inspiration for Julie Button's work comes from her home town of Littlehampton, her passion for photography and also from her admiration of other artists work, particularly Henri Matisse and Gustav Klimt.
Previous exhibitions of Julie Button's work have included a joint show for the Arundel Gallery Trail, with her sister who is a textile designer. She has also been part of the Littlehampton Arts Festival, and has held an open studio for this event. During this event the public could visit Julie's studio to watch her at work. This was highly successful, earning her high acclaim for her work, with lots of works being sold and commissions made.
