Philip Ryland
Philip Ryland comes from Nuneaton, Warwickshire and has been living in Farnham, Surrey since 2000. He previously had a studio at the Farnham Maltings and now works from a purpose built studio in the garden of his home.
He graduated in Fine Art, sculpture in 1993 at Staffordshire University but has concentrated on painting since around 1997.
His work is in private collections around the world and has been shown all over the UK as well as in New York and Sydney.
Philip works to commission and has paintings in various bars and restaurants around the country. Closer to home, he has produced two major paintings for the Enterprise Centre at the Coxbridge Business Park in Farnham and has work on loan to Waverley Borough Council at their offices in Godalming.
He has won several prizes for his work, including the James Hockey award for best painting in 2004, and was selected last year for the Celeste Art Prize, a national painting competition that resulted in the inclusion of a book of the same name.
All paintings are produced from photos Philip has taken and serve as reminders of particular events, places or people. Most of the photos are taken on day trips out, or on holiday, but more recently work is being made from old photos from Philip's childhood.
