"My aim is to stimulate the viewer's senses and imagination."
Robin Eckardt
Robin was born on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, where she spent the first ten years of her life. A vibrant childhood strongly influenced her outlook on the world, particularly in her depiction of colour and texture... both important aspects of her paintings today. Since a very young age, Robin has always had a passion for art. In her various studies, as she has become more serious, she has had the freedom to develop and experiment with painting techniques. Robin completed her BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Bath Spa University College in 2003 before launching her career as an artist.
"I am very interested in the world and the environment around me, and although my work is, to any extent, impressionistic, I also aim to capture the figurative and the very essence of reality. Consequently, I've developed a style of contemporary painting that is quite textured and highly tactile with many layers of translucent glazes.
Robin has mainly painted cityscapes, skylines and landscapes from images she has found inspiring. She tends to choose the more obscure for added interest, for example aerial views for perspective, or scenes involving movement, or having an interesting play on light, such as reflections.
Her style lends itself to quite large canvases, as this allows her to fully explore the boundaries of her highly varied and colourful palette of materials. She has always used mixed media in order to create work that is completely different and exciting yet aesthetically pleasing. Robin works in an energetic and instinctive way which adds to the dynamics of the painting and her personal expression. Ultimately, she aims to leave the viewer with a sense of emotion and experience.
